Mixing cannabis with tobacco is very common in Europe. In the 1960's and 1970's, for most Europeans, nothing else was available but hashies. And since we started with hashies and we already rolled our own 'roll-ups': we crumbled it in our rolling tobacco because a pipe tasted heavy and not everyone had one. These roll-ups were later known as the famous spliff (a joint with tobacco and weed in it), which seems to be smoked all over Europe.
